As one transitions into modern settlement typologies, one loses the characteristics of modern development projects, which favor privacy and isolation above an oppressive sense of community and dependence. The contemporary building trend is to develop more vertical structures due to land constraints and rapid population increase. Vertical structures have undeniably solved a host of urban issues. Vertical living, on the other hand, has effectively extinguished the community lifestyle. At this moment, the overall form and design layout of vertical housing do not reflect the cultural and social environment. The design isn't intended to accommodate an ever-expanding family's needs over time. This could lead to the extinction of our community's distinctive values and identity.

As a result, strategies for preserving traditions, habits, and values of life that reflect the distinctiveness of Malaysian living culture in the face of modernization are needed. A liveable vertical community must be diversified while still being collective, with densities embraced and mutually maintained through shared ways of living, working, learning, and playing. It must also provide its inhabitants with a sense of aliveness, allowing them to feel a sense of belonging.

 

The design concepts explore the vertical village. The spirit of a new village is a culture that refers to the neighborly spirit rooted in the country. Good things are to be shared and burdens are carried together. It refers to the sense of community where everybody looks out for each other. The idea of this concept is to innovate by integrating the new village spirit into the modern residential building that has lost the sense of togetherness and poor social interaction that are not reflecting our uniqueness of village living lifestyle.
